ENVIRONMENTAL

Environmental issues cover a wide spectrum. Although the SA Carp Society address various issues which negatively impacts on carp fishing, we currently focus on the following:

Environmental Gallery Highlights

Following are just a few areas where we will be focusing our attention.

Fish Care at Fishing Competitions / Catch and Release

Weigh stations are sometimes overloaded
with anglers waiting in queues

Instances like these call for
immediate action against the organisers

Anglers need to be given the option to
release their catch or be educated

Pollution

As one of our major challenges, the SA Carp Society will continuously address pollution related issues.

Pollution near Bloemhof exposed

Raw sewage running into the Vaal River

Fish Deaths in the Vaal River (Bloemhof)

Bow Fishing

We will make contact with bow hunting governing bodies to communicate our concerns

Croc senselessly killed in Arabie Dam

This croc was shot twice and left to die.
Two wounded crocodiles were also seen
at Roodekopjes Dam

We do not want this in South Africa
It needs to stop before its too late!

Commercial netting operations

Where possible the SA Carp Society will try to establish quotas and determine if these guidelines are
adhered to.

These fish were retrieved from the nets and
waiting to be taken to the factory

Piles of fish heads cover the factory floor
in Bloemhof

The Bloemhof waste dump also serves as a
Carp Grave Yard

Illegal netting / poaching

Not only will we actively take part and report on poaching incidents, we will also try to establish a working reporting platform to more effectively address these issues.
