SA Carp Society Membership
All anglers angling the European Style, also known as Boilie Fishing
(hair rig), and those already in the process of converting to this
style of carp angling, are welcome to join.
Why European Style only?
The South African Carp Society has simply adopted
the ethics and principles of this style and by no means are we
discriminating against any other form of carp angling.

The European Style of carp angling focuses on
targeting specimen (big) carp with carp friendly tackle and accessories
while continuously focusing on the wellbeing of the carp. Unhooking mats, carp
friendly landing nets, proper handling of the fish, strict catch and
release principles are all prerequisites.
The SA Carp Society offers two
levels of membership:
-
Level 1 - (New members)
This level is for new members, anglers with less than
1 year
of specimen carp angling experience and those new to
this style of angling. Also, if you are planning to convert
from any other form of carp angling, or have
recently converted, then this level is for you.
-
Level 2 - (Requires sponsor,
interview or 10 points)
To
advance to this level you must first apply for Level 2
membership.
Your application will be considered if:
1. You have an existing member (Level 2) who can
vouch for you, also referred to as a Sponsor, or
2. You have acquired 10 points (see Points System),
or
3. You successfully completed an interview at any of the SA Carp Society accredited centres /
venues located country wide.
Code of Conduct
Upon joining the South African Carp
Society each member will be required to sign the
South African Carp Society's Code
of Conduct. Members must strictly adhere to this
Code of Conduct in order to ensure the long term
integrity of the South African Carp Society.
How do I join?
Download the
Member Application Form, complete and fax it to us.

your computer.
How will I be able to advance to
the next level?
Option 1 - Sponsor
If you have been fishing with or you know a SACS
members with Member Level 2 status, you can ask
him/her to sign your application form for you (as a
Sponsor).
Please note that Sponsors can be held accountable
for certain Code of Conduct or Rule infringements
made by sponsored members.
Option 2 - Points System
The South African Carp Society, through the Going
For Gold Specimen Carp Fishing Series, Seminars,
Social Events and Competitive Angling Affiliations
offers various means to allow members to advance to
his/her next level of membership. By getting
actively involved and / or angling with other
members you will earn 2 points for each event or
pro-SACS action completed (requested by and on
behalf of SACS).
This way your skill level and ethics will become
known to fellow members and SACS Management /
Committee. During this process fellow members will
also be able to assist you to become a better angler
(all you need to do is ask). Any issues with regards
to ethics, carp care, tackle requirements and usage
thereof will be pointed out to you and you can
address them at your own pace.
Members with more than two years of specimen carp
angling experience, who hasn't got access to a
Sponsor, can use the Points System to progress to
the next level.
How does the Points System work?
Every time you attend a SACS event, whether it
is a social, Going For Gold Series competition or a
seminar you will earn 2 points. Every time you act
on behalf of SACS, e.g. distributing flyers, you
will earn 2 points. Having acquired 10 points will
allow you to submit your application for Level 2
membership.
Option 3 - Interview
Another option would be to make an appointment
with a South African Carp Society representative at
one of our assessment / interviewing centres located
across South Africa.
Contact details:
Rietpoort Lakes /
Lesoetho's Kraal
Danny:
danny@greatlakes.co.za
Rushmere / Laurantia Dam
Shanin:
shaninw@proscan.co.za
Erfenis Dam (Central Free
State)
Otto Kruger:
otto@umfa.co.za
How it works:
Make an appointment with one of the interviewing
centres for a fishing session (over weekends).
During your session you will be interviewed and
should it be successful, your application form will
be signed by the SA Carp Society representative.
You can then submit your application for Member
Level 2.
Any issues with regards to ethics, carp care, tackle
requirements and usage thereof will be pointed out
to you and you can address them at your own pace.
More interview / assessment centres / options will be
made available soon. Please contact us should you
need more information about interviewing centres in
South Africa.
Why the Points System, Sponsor or
Interview?
The South African Carp Society is actively procuring
venues and negotiating benefits for our members. The
Points System, Sponsor and Interview are means required
to uphold the integrity of the South African Carp
Society Membership. SACS is making promises to venue
owners on behalf of
our members and we cannot risk a few bad apples spoiling
it for the rest of our valued member base.
Code of Conduct / Rule Infringement
Any Code of Conduct or Rule infringement will be
noted on the South African Carp Society membership
record database and may result in further steps being
taken, depending on the nature of the infringement.
A second infringement within one year of the first
infringement will result in the angler/s membership
being suspended / cancelled, subject to the consideration of the
South African Carp Society Management / Committee, who
will notify the angler/s in writing.
VERY IMPORTANT
Your SA Carp Society Membership Card
remains the property of The SA Carp
Society and is non transferable. Should you lose
your Membership Card a replacement will be supplied

serve as proof that you are a member of the SA Carp Society. As a backup measure the SA Carp Society SMS system will allow
SACS managed
resort managers / owners to query the status of any
membership in real time. Upon making a booking the
resort manager / owner may query the SA Carp Society database via
SMS. The SA Carp Society SMS system will respond with the member
details to confirm membership.
